Hello, bonjour, selamat datang, buenos dias, buongiorno, здравствуйте, नमस्ते& שָׁלוֹם. My name is Amit.
This blog came to fruition two years after a near-fatal accident – during which time I was bedridden, with a broken body and spirit, for long stretches of time. The world closed in around me, as I concentrated on the early days (months, years) of healing my body. For awhile, I existed as if encased in a snow globe – not surprising, given that much of my time was spent in the chilly, wintry northern hemisphere.
As my acute recovery improved and translated into more movement, swims and sorties, the world came into sharper focus, and the hard edges began to melt away. Ergo my writing expanded beyond the immediate contours of my body’s (re)surface.
Through all the shifts, both seismic and subtle, my blog has been a mainstay. It’s where I ponder mystery, share the thrill of discoveries, entertain new possibilities, and thrive among the shared abundance of life’s stories – within an incredible, if not largely invisible, sphere of other bloggers around the world. Welcome, to my extraordinary adventures in travel, healing, walking (long, far and wide).. and LIFE.

So…where art thou healing pilgrim? Did you make it back to THE bridge? Did you celebrate Chinese New Year this year? Will you write here soon so we can read and know how it was…how you are? where you are? Did you reunite in vertical with all your caretakers and gentle souls in BKK and BB who treated you 2 years ago? xo
It’s all part of the process.., one step at a time. I’ll fill you in when I can.. promise!
xoxo
Your inner strength, determination and spirit are very powerful. Clearly your journey has been for a purpose. I will chose to believe that I follow your journey so that I can , in my own way, embark on a jouney of my own. So I thank you for sharing….

Wonderful to find your blog. Friend of mine at dinner the other night mentioned your process and your journey. I love traveling and am a friend of healing having engaged so much of it in my time.
Wishing you the best as you journey physically, psychologically, emotionally, mentally (and what every other -ally way there is!)

Hi Deirdre,
Ahh, I like your phrase “friend of healing” 🙂

Many thanks – gracias! – for your kind and supportive words.
Get well soon, Amit! You are very brave to still continue with your love for traveling despite the unfortunate mishap that almost cost your life. You are right, your adventure is just on hold for the moment. I hope and pray that very soon, you’ll be on track again with your travels.
Many thanks Malou for your thoughtful and supportive words 🙂
Wow. So beautifully written. What a brave and soft soul you are.
Thanks Mike, I appreciate your words.
Amit – wishing you magic, inspiration, courage and miracles on your healing journey. Thanks so much for graciously sharing it with us. I’ll include you in my daily healing meditations. Bless xx
Thank you for writing and for your wishes!! I feel blessed indeed for the experiences and to be able to share and connect with readers and writers… 🙂
It takes so much courage and determination to do what you are doing! I, too am on a physical healing journey–at home with family and long-term familiar surroundings. It is those lengthy moments of outright pain and feelings of hopelessness that challenge the spirit and soul. It sounds as though you have the inner depth to acknowledge those times and continue to thrive. Blessings, Barb
Hi Barb,
Thanks for your comment. Kudos to you for your pursuit of healing and happiness too… as you probably know yourself, there are up days and down days.. I just try to focus on (and write about!) the ones that have more joy, adventure, learning and heart.
Thanks for stopping by my blog,
Amit
Hi Amit, I just wanted to let you know I nominated you for a Versatile Blogger Award.
Hi Elise,
Wow, really? I’m such a WordPress-Luddite… not really sure what that means, but what an honor! I’ve ‘met’ so many wonderful people, writers, thinkers, journey-people on this forum, I am so grateful… Thanks 🙂
Amit
Just checking in on life in Bali! I’ve missed reading your thoughtful posts. Hope you’re well!
Hi Elise! Sorry for being awol for so long.. but it was worth it, catching up with family & friends & life on the other side of the pond. I guess I had to disconnect for awhile! Thanks for checking in though, I’m sure I’ll get back into the blog-reading and writing soon enough. Take care 🙂
Hope you are well again back to your full potential physically!!
Thanks, working.. playing.. singing.. swimming… yoga-ing… massaging.. my way back (or forward?!) again 😉
Wonderful way!! Very healing!!
Hi Amit! I was wondering if you’d be up for an interview for my Abroad Blog of the Week. I featured you before I ever started the interviews and I would love to revisit. Would you be up for it? Send me an email at elisehblalock(at)gmail.com and I can give you all the details. Talk to you soon!
sure, thnx will do! Maybe Lottie would agree that, if you focus on women for awhile… you could afford a typo, thereby renaming it A Broad Blog of the Week 😉
I look forward to reading your blog 🙂 Love and light.
Thanks for reading 😉
Your story and your blog looks fascinating. I look forward to checking out your blog posts. Thanks for stopping by my blog and liking my Freshly Pressed post.
thanks for dropping by mine too!
Amit, I am so touched and inspired by your story. Facing what you have, and are facing, is truly the definition of intrepid. I applaud your fabulous spirit and sense of adventure. All the Best, Terri
Thanks for your comments Terri! An adventure certainly yes, fabulous I’m less sure of 😉
I hope you’re healing quickly! Thanks for mentioning my blog! I’m following now! ~Sherry~
Adore your blog 🙂
Thank YOU!
It seems that life consists of many journeys, some easier than others. We’re all pilgrams, but some paths are more challenging than others. I hope the rest of this journey for you is straight and downhill, that you pick up speed and feel the wind through your hair. It is obvious that you’re taking in the view–that makes all the difference. Best of good fortune, Doug
Hi Doug, Thanks so much for your supportive comments.., I am definitely taking in the view!
“Extraordinary adventures in healing”…I like that visual. Thank you for visiting Shadows and leaving your thumbprint with a “like”.
right back at you: “leaving your thumbprint…” 😉
I have a great deal of respect for the work you are undertaking and the results that you achieve. You have endured unbelievable hardships and surface smiling every time! You have brought hope and new life to so many. Many thanks.
Thanks Mort, for dropping into my blog and for your supportive words – much appreciated 😉 Hope you are doing well!
Thanks Mort, very thoughtful of you to drop by and for your supportive comments. Happy Passover.
Amit! I love your writing and your journey. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I was inspired by something you said and blogged about it.

You have truly made “to heal” a reflexive verb. The subject and the object are interchangeable. As you heal, you heal (others).
Thanks Frank!
Sweet of you to reblog some of what I’d written, which reinforces what I’ve thought for a long time: we never know how we might touch someone else’s heart on the other side of the world.
Love your blog concept 😉
Thanks Frank for your supportive and insightful comments! Love the idea of your blog too 😉
Thanks Frank, for visiting my blog – and for your supportive comments. I’m impressed with the concept of your blog, what a wonderful way to connect with people around the world 😉
Impressive story, I wish you well!!
Thank you! Blessings to you too.
Hi Amit! I know that you have received the Very Inspiring Blogger Award before, but I do find your journey and your candid sharing of it truly inspiring. Thanks Jean. I have so much more to learn on this path – and I hope you can help me spread the word 😉
Hello, Amit 😀
I hope you do not mind being re-nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award.
Your posts are wonderful and I simply have to share them to my readers.
I have put a link to The Healing Pilgrim on my latest post (http://hariqhuang.wordpress.com/2013/08/07/the-versatile-blogger-award/).
Have a wonderful day!
Hi Hari,
Sorry for the delay, I’m spending all my time with family (whom I’ve not seen since last summer) rather than online 😉 I always appreciate your comments, insight and support – the surprising re-nomination too! Hope I can return to blogging soon – and to dropping by your blog too. Take care and sampai jump!

Hello Amit, Just wanted to let you know that I’ve nominated your blog – Very Inspiring Blogger Award – hope you accept. You’ve inspired me. Thanks.
Hi Steve, Sorry for the delay… What a surprise to find your nomination… thank you so much for this honour…I’m humbled, as it comes from you – whose insightful and informative writing I’ve enjoyed so much, and whose photos always instill in me a desire to travel to parts unknown. So, can I reciprocate with the nomination too?! Spasiba 😉 Oh, and do I have to ‘do’ anything?
Okay, go to this post on my blog:
http://wp.me/p2ROdc-2Nr
On this post you will see what I did and what you need to do. If you have any questions please ask.
By the way what do think of wordpress’s new stats system. Personally I don’t like it.
Done, thanks 😉 I don’t tend to look at the stats page(s)… what is it about the new system that you don’t like?
It’s a watered down version of the old, hard to navigate, easy to miss information. Just not what it used to be. Luckily it allows you to visit the old set up which was designed much smarter.
Absolutely K.. it was a real heart-to-heart connection. Thanks for sharing from deep in your soul!
You’ve clearly transformed a huge misfortune into a blessing by sharing your experience and wisdom with others. Your talent for alchemy is inspirational! Thanks for the example. I look forward to reading more. Jeff
Hi Jeff, Thanks for visiting my blog and for your comments. I love sharing my stories, so I’m glad to see they make a tiny impact out in the world once in awhile. All the best for the holidays!
All the best to you 😉
The road we travel is amazing at times with its unexpected interruptions, but the beauty of it is the way we continue to learn. Learning about healing and walking and life has its blessings and as I continue on a very similar path. I offer my friendship. Thank you for the kindness you have shared my friend and may loves light and healing grace forever be your companion. Phoenix
So poetically put. Thank you Phoenix, for your kindness in return. May our paths lead to deeper truths, insights and love.
Hi there good to meet you. Your blog inspires me. Regards.
Well done for having the courage to continue with your travels after your accident. It’s great to see that something so positive has come out of a bad experience. I will enjoy exploring your blog.
Thanks Karen, look forward to seeing more photography on yours too 😉
Wow, what a dramatic story! It’s wonderful that you have such a positive attitude and you didn’t stop traveling after your accident. I hope you are fully recovered now.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and liking my post “Never, dear. Men don’t say that”. I’ve noticed your comments over at Lesley’s Bucket List Publications blog before — I also follow Lesley’s blog. The WordPress blogging community is such a wonderful place. Even though there are hundreds and thousands of blogs, I often encounter mutual blogging friends. 🙂
Yes, Grace, it’s a wonderful realm, the blogosphere, a place to connect in unusual ways – over shared interests and experiences. Thnx for your comments and for visiting!
Hi Amit, I’ve been following your blog for a while and really love what you write. May I ask you a question? We’ll be travelling to Bali in a few weeks but are unsure where to stay – we’re bringing our toddler along. Do you have any suggestions for kids friendly areas or even hotels? We’re not too much into big resorts and luxury though…something really quiet and safe would be perfect 🙂
Thanks so much!
Andrea
Hi Andrea, Thanks for your comments, glad to hear you’re enjoying my writing. It might be hard to believe, if you’ve not been here before, but the pickings in Bali are so unimaginably extensive that I wouldn’t know where to start to answer your question. My suggestion would be to read up on the areas where you’d like to stay and visit, including child- or family-friendly venues and hotels. You’ll see soon enough how much is on offer! I hope you enjoy your time in Bali 😉
Just found you through James & Terri over at Galavance.net. You bring a place near and dear to my heart alive once again. So much to catch up on at you site! Salaam Pagi!
Hi Martha! Glad to hear from you.. and how nice for you to have found me via Terri and James. I absolutely love their posts and photos! Selamat malam (evening here now), hope to hear from you again.
I very much resonated with your post. Unlike you I have not traveled very much in the physical world. However my inner journey’s have been quite extensive Still so much to explore both outside and inside all the best Moshe
Inside journeys can sometimes lead you much further than outer ones do.. I learned that myself these past few weeks. All the best Moshe.
Oh my gosh I’m so excited to be reading your blog! What adventures and strength!
Thanks, and welcome! I’m equally pleased to have found yours.. so full of love and concern for your husband’s Babu 😉
My friend Peta Kaplan told me about your inspirational journey, beautifully imagery, and engaging prose. I look forward to following you as you journey further and further from your snow-globe confinement.
Nice to meet you Lisa, and thanks for writing! Glad that Peta sent you my way.. Have you walked the Camino yourself?
I have only been to Santiago de Compostela (visited there right before I set sail from Galicia to The Canary Islands). Have dreamed of walking the Camino ever since…someday
Keep on dreamin’… 😉 Meanwhile, check your email!
Hey Amit,
Wow, great about page, one of the best I’ve ever read. I’ll be following your future posts. Great to be in contact.

Lovely to hear from you, John and Susan! I wonder where in the world – and oceans – you both are these days.. I’ve been off the grid (so to speak) for a while, while traveling in India. Wishing you both a happy and adventurous new year 😉
